Lakeside Spreads Love Through Service and Sandwiches

To share the spirit of Valentine’s Day with the broader community, sixth-grade students at Norman J. Levy Lakeside School in Merrick prepared 1,876 cold-cut sandwiches on Feb. 13 for donation to The River Fund, a poverty-focused organization that assists individuals and families facing food insecurity.
The large-scale service effort was made possible through donations of food and packaging supplies from students, the Student Council, and the school’s PTA.
“The initiative provided students with a meaningful opportunity to give back while supporting neighbors in need,” noted Melissa Robinson, one of the sixth grade teachers who helped organize the effort.
