Birch Students Lead Successful Food Drive to Support Local Families

The S.A.D.D. Club at Birch School recently organized a successful food drive to support the Community Cupboard, a food pantry run by the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District that serves nearly 100 local families each week.
For the third year in a row, students collected hundreds of donations of non-perishable food items, gift cards, and packing supplies. Club members worked together to decorate and wrap baskets and boxes so they would look warm and welcoming for the families receiving them.
On Nov. 24, the students delivered all the donated items to the Community Cupboard, located at the Brookside building in Merrick.
“It’s all about giving back and supporting our community,” explained Jarrod Alexander, a teacher and the club’s faculty advisor. “And about showing these kids how they can help families in need.”
