Lakeside Students Build Coding Skills Through Hands-On Learning

Lakeside students across all grade levels in the district are actively developing their coding and design skills through engaging, hands-on technology lessons that make learning both fun and meaningful.
In kindergarten and first grade, students are being introduced to foundational coding concepts using Indy, a friendly robot that reads color-coded programs placed on the floor. As students design and test their sequences, classrooms fill with excitement -especially when Indy reaches the purple tile and performs its celebratory dance.
Second-grade students are expanding their skills by learning beginning keyboarding and coding Dash to complete problem-solving challenges. They are also applying these concepts through Code.org, where they create interactive digital worlds using sprites, strengthening creativity, logic, and computational thinking.
These age-appropriate activities foster curiosity, collaboration, and confidence, helping students build a strong foundation in technology and critical thinking skills for the future.
