Welcome to Norman J Levy Lakeside Elementary School! We are excited to be on this educational journey with you!

Our main goal at Lakeside is to help each child grow into a motivated, confident learner and a compassionate individual.  We do this by instilling a love of learning while ensuring our students are ready to meet the challenges and demands of the 21st century.  Students are encouraged to take risks in their learning and persevere when they are met with challenges.  We consistently build upon our school-wide character education theme, “Lakeside ROARS,” which stands for Respectful, Openminded, Accepting, Responsible, Students.  Through this motto, it is our hope to help all students identify the strengths inside them and realize that with hard work, determination and kindness, anything is possible.

Creativity, critical thinking and problem solving are continually embedded in our curriculum to help students to grow and develop across all academic domains.  Our staff works diligently to meet the needs of all children, while supporting, guiding, and challenging them to be the best they can be.  Education of the whole child is an integral part of our school philosophy.  Through the implementation of our Second Step Program, we support students’ social-emotional learning by strategically teaching skills and strategies that help to develop problem-solving, communication and self-awareness for all children.  Academically, we provide a variety of interventions and support programs to assist students as needed while continuing to enrich our students with various programs including, Music and Arts Education, Foreign Language for Elementary Schools (FLES), APEX, Math Olympiads, and STEAM Enrichment.  We also offer numerous clubs such as, Art Club, Digital Tools, Scrabble Club, Spanish Club, Math Club Writing Club, TED ED and Math Olympiads.

Together with our families and the community, the staff and students of Lakeside will work toward academic, social, and emotional growth and development.  Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in the school. We invite you to become an active participant through volunteering, joining our PTA, and/or attending and supporting school events. Research clearly supports the fact that when parents/guardians participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for the child.  Becoming involved in the school community is also a wonderful way to learn about what is going on in your child’s school.

The Merrick School District’s communication platform is ParentSquare for school-to-home communication through email, text, and mobile app notifications. This unified communications platform is designed to keep Merrick families informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with our school district. It provides a safe way for district administrators, school principals, teachers, staff, parents, and guardians to:

  • Send and receive school and class information
  • Share pictures and files
  • See calendar items
  • Sign-up to volunteer
  • Schedule parent-teacher conferences
  • We would like to invite you to continually visit our school’s website throughout the year.  This will serve as a wonderful resource for families to stay current regarding upcoming events, review important notices and view highlights of student activities.  We look forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our students can achieve their highest potential.
