Chatterton's annual Art Show was held on April 24, bringing to life art pieces such as Tim Burton dreams, mouthwatering realistic food sculptures, and vibrant Día de los Muertos skeletons.  

Teacher Justine Dujardin organized the display, which featured artwork in various mediums by the school’s many talented students.

On April 11, Birch held its annual Scrabble Tournament for fifth and sixth-grade students.

“This is a preliminary tournament to determine which teams will be moving forward to the annual Kiwanis Club event at the end of May,” explained librarian Vanessa Schroeder, who organized the tournament.

Students from Lakeside, Birch, and Chatterton schools will compete in Scrabble, with the opportunity to earn awards for high scores, points, and the highest words.

Top winners at Birch were: Siena and Lianna – Sportsmanship, Mila and Mitchell - Highest word score, Max and Leo - First place, Jaymes and Mason - Second place, and Siena and Avery (not pictured) - Third place

On April 11, students and staff across the Merrick School District honored military families and military-connected kids with Purple Up Day.

The New York State Education Department designated April as the Month of the Military Child or “Purple Up! For Military Kids.”

They wore purple to honor the critical role military children play and we recognize the unique challenges they face while their service member parents serve our country.

We thank our military-connected children for their strength and sacrifice by supporting Purple Up For Military Kids.

The world-famous Harlem Wizards took on the (locally famous) Merrick teachers on April 9 in a full-court spectacle that was a fundraising success.

Students, families, and staff were treated to jaw-dropping basketball tricks, slick dribbling, high-flying dunks, super duper alley-oops, and more in this friendly but competitive matchup.

Presented by the PTAs of all three schools, Birch, Chatterton, and Lakeside, the line-ups from each school included building principals and assistant principals, as well as teachers and support staff.
